THE former Dawn Dairies plant in Killarney, located in the middle of a densely populated residential area, but right on the edge of the town centre, has come on the market.

The facility in Kilcoolaght, close to Killarney Library and adjacent to houses in Marian Terrace, O’Kelly’s Villas and Rock Road, has been put up for sale, by private treaty or public auction, by Kerry Group.

A guide price of €550,000 has been put on the 1.06-acre enclosed site with access from both from Rock Road and Lewis Road.
Zoned residential in the Killarney Town Development Plan, the joint selling agents, Sherry Fitzgerald Coghlan and Sherry Fitzgerald Stephenson Crean, have described it as an unique opportunity to purchase an infill brownfield residential development site in a mature residential area within walking distance of all town amenities.

The milk bottling and pasteurisation plant was constructed in 1961 and the existing buildings provide 10,224 sq.ft. of industrial space with integrated offices.

The auctioneers say the site has vast potential for numerous developments, including a residential development of 15 to 25 units, a retirement development or nursing home or a brewery/distillery.

The disused plant is made up of a pasteurising hall, a flat roof palleting area, cold room, stores a packing area, ground floor and first floor offices, toilets, a canteen, stores and two portable offices.
