KERRY TD Brendan Griffin is backing Leo Varadkar in the Fine Gael leadership race.
A long-time supporter of the Social Protection Minister, Deputy Griffin has publicly confirmed that he will support him in his head-to-head with Cork South Central TD Simon Coveney
The Kerry TD said he thinks Mr Varadkar is the best person to lead the country and the party into the future.
“I have every confidence that he will be an excellent Taoiseach. I think he will do a very good job for every citizen of Ireland and the people of Kerry,” said Deputy Griffin who could be in the running for a ministerial role if Mr Varadkar is successful.
TDs, senators, MEPs, councillors, and rank and file members will all have a vote in the electoral college system but the 73-member parliamentary party will have the biggest say with 65 per cent of the voting strength.

Senator Paul Coghlan has strongly hinted that he will back Housing Minister Simon Coveney while MEP Seán Kelly remains undecided.
The MEP, who is related through marriage to outgoing Taoiseach Enda Kenny, believes the Mayo TD could have a role to play in Europe.
