LEO Griffin, the much-loved Kerry kitman who passed away at the weekend, will be remembered prior to the throw-in at the Kerry senior football championship final at Fitzgerald Stadium this afternoon.
There will be a moment of reflection before the game commences to remember Leo and a number of other GAA stalwarts who have passed away.
Leo will forever be remembered, and associated with, an amazing and successful period in Kerry football which was the Mick O’Dwyer era. He was a lifelong member of the John Mitchels GAA club and a member of the Kerry GAA Supporters’ Club from the outset.
Others to be remembered this afternoon include Christy Kissane, formerly of Beaufort and London, who was a great friend of Kerry GAA and a lifelong supporter of the county.
Remembered too will be Carmel O’Donoghue of the former Park Place Hotel in Killarney which was a home from home for many Kerry footballers down through the years.
Jerome McEllistrim, president of Ballymacelligott GAA club at the time of his death, will also be honoured. A well-known umpire, he was also a member of Kerry GAA Supporters’ Club from the start.
Also remembered will be Brian Looney who died tragically, at a young age, during the week. Brian played at all levels for Glenbeigh-Glencar during a long career with the club.
