Great effort, great team, great work

Cleaning up: GSH human resources manager Caoimhe Spillane, operations manager Roisin O’Sullivan and human resources administrator Jelena Rajak

Keeping Killarney looking good requires great teamwork and there is never any shortage of that in the town given the level of civic pride demonstrated so willingly by groups and individuals who are all happy to play their part.

Taking time out from catering for the needs of visitors in the lead up to St Patrick’s Weekend – the traditional launch of the tourism season – management and staff from the Great Southern Hotel have taken to the streets to do their bit to keep the town looking pristine.

They donned the hi-vis bibs, rolled up their sleeves and got busy with litter pickers and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“We are aware of our responsibility to give back to the community and one way to do so is to support the efforts of the tidy towns team,” said managing director Michael Jacobi.

“We can all play our part to present Killarney as a clean and world-class tourist destination,” he added.

Co-presidents of Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce, Johnny McGuire and Pádraig Treacy, welcomed the initiative and said they would love to see the contribution being emulated other businesses across all sectors in the town.

“The tidy towns ethos is at the heart of the Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce for many years and the great work being shown by the Great Southern team is tremendous,” they said in a statement.

“Under the management structure of Kerry County Council, there is a fresh impetus to bring Killarney back up to a higher ranking in IBAL and Tidy Towns competitions and this can only be achieved if we have full support from everybody,” the chamber said.
