Great Danes: Killarney’s warm welcome

THE boys in green are doing their bit for Killarney’s tourism industry.

Passionate Republic of Ireland fans who travelled to Denmark for the first leg of the World Cup play-off certainly left a favourable impression on the locals who loved their sense of fun and the party spirit for which they are famous.

So much so that it prompted two travel happy Danes to plan a holiday to Ireland and Killarney was their chosen port of call.

Mikael Sorenson and Kristine Dalsgard arrived in town this week with fond memories of their encounters with Ireland fans in Copenhagen just a few short weeks ago.

They were so taken by the supporters they met in their home country that Ireland became their chosen holiday destination and they enjoyed all that Killarney had to offer for four days.

They checked into Victoria House Hotel and hired bicycles from Dave Sheehan at the Flesk Caravan Park to tour Killarney National Park and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“They were planning a visit to Europe and they were considering Paris but when they saw how friendly the Irish fans were, they came here instead. We gave them a great welcome, even if Denmark beat us in the second leg,” said Dave.
