A GIFTED Killarney singer who hopes to realise a long-time ambition to record an album of Kerry songs has set up an online Kickstarter campaign to help fund the initiative.
Grace Foley has already selected the songs she would like to feature on the proposed Home To Kerry album and she is hoping to secure local financial support to help her dream to become a reality.
Grace is a classical crossover singer and covers many genres, including classical, contemporary, traditional Irish and folk.
She studied with the late Aine Nic Ghabhann, James Nelson of The Celtic Tenors and at the Royal Irish Academy of Music with Virginia Kerr.
“I am so excited about my project. I feel so passionate about my home place and, of course, the music here,” said Grace who is a professional performer.

“Where I am from has shaped me into the person I am today and I want to create something beautiful to bring the sounds of Kerry to a broad audience,” she told KillarneyToday.com.

But, she acknowledges, the music business can be tough and in order to make their mark, performers are sometimes asked to turn their back on where they are from.
“This was something I never wanted to do. I look forward to putting on many concerts all over Ireland and maybe even further afield to promote my music and to promote my home place,” Grace said.
Funding is the biggest obstacle she is encountering and if her Kickstarter campaign doesn’t reach the €5,000 target, the project will have to be abandoned.
“There are many elements to this, with studio time, mastering, photography and CD sleeves. If the physical sale of CDs slowed down I would also start to sell them on my website,” she said.
