A PARISH devastated by last winter’s floods has hosted a lively night of music, song, dance and drama to raise funds for the Killarney Water Rescue Unit for the great service its volunteers provided during the crisis.
Glenflesk was one of the areas worst hit areas by the freak weather last December and the Water Rescue Unit volunteers helped to save people, some elderly and infirm, who had been stranded in their homes.
To say thank you in the best way possible, a fun-filled Rambling House event, organised by a committee spearheaded by Neilie Moynihan, was held in the local GAA hall last night with singers, dancers, musicians and other performers showcasing their talents.
Lending neighbourly support was a drama group from Kilcummin who performed a very amusing sketch called The Wake which they had staged in last year’s Tops of the Town in Killarney.
The country’s most popular politician, Michael Healy-Rae, showing a few scars from his recent run-in with a cow, joined in the sing-song as did his brother, Deputy Danny, who was joined by his daughter, Cllr Maura Healy-Rae, when they played accordion.
With the popular Derry Healy as master of ceremonies, a raffle was on the night and all proceeds will go to the Killarney Water Rescue Unit.
