A COMMUNITY devastated by last December’s floods is planning a night of high quality entertainment to raise funds for the Killarney Water Rescue Unit for they great service its volunteers gave during the parish’s hour of need.

Glenflesk was one of the areas worst hit areas in the freak weather which wreaked havoc at the close of last year and the Water Rescue Unit members helped to save people, some very elderly, who were stranded as their homes were devastated by floodwater.

As a gesture of appreciation, a Rambling House event, with music, song, drama, dance and storytelling, has been lined up in the local GAA hall on Easter Sunday night and it promises to be an occasion not to be missed.

Singers, dancers, musicians and other performers will descend on the venue from 8.00pm to 11.00pm and there will be a number of guest appearances on the night, including the Kilcummin GAA Club who will perform a hilarious sketch called The Wake and newly co-opted councilor, Maura Healy-Rae, who will play accordion.

One of the organising committee, Neilie Moynihan, said people in Glenflesk will be forever grateful to the Killarney Water Rescue Unit for their heroic work during the floods with the volunteers able to reach areas where nobody else could.

“They do wonderful work, really outstanding,” said Neilie.

“When we needed them they were here. It was like being at a cowboy film and watching the cavalry coming over the hill,” he added.

A raffle will be held on the night and all proceeds will go to the Killarney Water Rescue Unit.
