Former Kerry footballer Donnchadh Walsh is passing on some GAA-related tricks of the trade to older people to encourage them to keep active.
The Cromane native, a chartered physiotherapist, helps to puts them all through their paces and highlights the importance of movement and he reminds them that age is only a number.
Donnchadh lined out this week at an Older People’s Council Convention hosted by Kerry County Council and Kerry’s Older People’s Council in conjunction with Age Friendly Ireland.
He teamed up, at a major two-day conference for older people, taking place in the Rose Hotel, Tralee, with Age Friendly Kerry Ambassador and hotelier Francis Brennan, broadcaster and producer of RTÉ’s Other Voices series Philip King and social psychologist and health and wellbeing specialist Dr Stephanie O’Keeffe to encourage older people to keep active, re-connect and re-establish local bonds in the post-Covid environment.
Research shows that many older people have found it challenging to return to the social activities that they had loved prior to the pandemic.
