KERRY GAA clubs will join in the big County Clean-Up on Saturday, April 14 and organisers are encouraging individuals and groups to sign up and join them on the day.

They say the more people involved and the greater the visibility of those taking part, the more successful the event will be.

Thousands of individuals and groups have already signed up with KWD Recycling which is distributing the County Clean-Up packs and arranging pick-up points for litter collected.

Kerry County Board chairman, Tim Murphy, remarked: “We are delighted to get on board with this very worthwhile initiative. We have asked GAA clubs and members all over Kerry to help out on the day and get involved with the teams in their areas who will helping to make the county spick and span”.

Getting ready for the big day were Holy Cross Mercy pupils Ella O’Connor, Rihanna Wright, Julia Pawlowska, Samantha Trousilova, Nadia Karpus, Tara Jenkinson, Naoise Cahill and Waronika Bies with their teacher Olywn Trant.

The Clean-Up coordination team is asking residents’ associations, schools, youth groups, sporting groups, businesses, families and friends to get together and gather litter along the major routes and along the local country roads throughout Kerry on the day.

Colm Cooper is on the County Clean-Up team again this year working hard as always to promote the county and lend a helping hand.

Environmental Awareness Officer with Kerry County Council, Oonagh O’Connor, said the message she wants to get out this year is to clean up the roads that are less frequently collected and stretches of roadside that might not have been cleaned in recent years.

“We hope as many people as possible will participate – all you have to do is think about the roads we pass every day on our way from home to the shops, schools and work and get involved,” she said.
