Confirming details of the allocations, general election candidate, Linda Gordon Kelleher, thanked her Fianna Fáil colleague Minister of State for Sport, Thomas Byrne, for the generous allocations for Kerry which, she said, were very badly needed and would be put to very good use by all the recipients.

“There is tremendous work and volunteering ongoing in Kerry with so many clubs, schools and organisations involved and this boost is more than deserved,” she said.

Killarney Municipal District Council member, John O’Donoghue, of the Kerry Independent Alliance, also warmly welcomed the allocations which, he said, will be of particular benefit to young people.

Education Minister and Kerry TD, Norma Foley, said: “We love our sports in Kerry and these new sports grants will help provide fantastic new facilities for generations to come”.

General election candidate Cllr Michael Cahill remarked: “There is a magnificent variety of allocations to local community organisations in Kerry. I’m delighted to see such a strong focus on supporting grassroots sports in communities”.
