FUNDING has finally been provided to tackle persistent problems with the water supply related to the pumping station at the Barleymount Reservoir, along the Listry to Faha road.
Education Minister and Kerryl TD Norma Foley has announced that extensive water supply network upgrades will commence this year.
These important works will continue to reduce leaks across the network in Kerry and this tranche of significant work will specifically target and replace mains in the Farranfore, the Board of Works Road in Beaufort and Cordal, near Castleisland.
Further funding will allow for the design of additional mains replacement between Crohane pumping station and Barleymount Reservoir, along the Listry to Faha road and in the Ashill area.
All of the works are planned for construction this year, with the first section along the Board of Works Road commenced since last week.
This announcement comes just weeks after Irish Water confirmed that a new wastewater treatment plant is to be built in Fenit.
Knightstown wastewater treatment plant is also to be upgraded.
Minster Foley said she has worked closely with her cabinet colleague, Minister Darragh O’Brien on the issue and she thanked him, Irish Water and Kerry County Council for their continued commitment, support and determination to upgrade the water network.
