A full house for the glorious Gobnaits

IT was a case of Full House – in every sense – as the fab four that are Killarney’s very own glorious Gobnaits hosted a fun-filled bingo session the likes of which has never been seen before in the town – or anywhere else for that matter.

The public joined the Gobnaits on the special double-decker bingo bus which departed from Mission Road with a quick prayer and, faster than it takes to shout ‘Check’, they were picking up their bingo books in The Laurels Hall.

There was great fun and hilarity as ‘Father’ Andrew Joy called out the bingo numbers and some of the spectacular prizes up for grabs included half a bag of turf, flea shampoo, a worm dose, a Borat-style festive thong and a fetching pair of men’s underpants.

The Gobnaits gave a demonstration on how to carry rooster spuds between their knees before dropping them into buckets and, if the bingo players thought that was hilarious, the smiles weren’t long being wiped off their faces when they were made do it themselves.

The bumper bingo session –  part of the Christmas in Killarney festivities – also saw late arrivals being driven into the hall with the assistance of Dinny Corridan’s blackthorn stick while some bingo buffs were dispatched down to Charlie Foley’s to borrow a jug of milk or over the Reidy’s Sweetshop for a quarter of bon bons.

The stars of the show, of course, were the game-for-a-laugh Gobnait, who looked fetching in their headscarves and housecoats, and they were brought to life by Kate O’Leary, Julie McGowan, Emer Corridan and Anne Marie O’Shea-Kennelly.
