A GREAT old tradition of the jarveys’ horses in Killarney being blessed by the Franciscan Friars was maintained at the weekend – and the weather played its part.
Friary Guardian Fr Liam McCarthy led members of his community in the ceremony after they were treated to a short jaunting car trip from the friary by Danny Ferris who is one of the best known and longest serving jarveys in the town.
Fr McCarthy blessed the horses individually and also prayed for the jarveys and their families and the many tourists who enjoy jaunting car trips.

The short service, in glorious October sunshine, took place at the jarvey stand at the Ha Ha, much to the delight of tourists and passing locals who gathered to observe proceedings.
Killarney is now the Northern European and inter-provincial novitiate for the Franciscan Order. Novices from around the world spend a year in the town year learning about the Franciscan way of life and w dedicate themselves to prayer, brotherhood and community.
