AS elections go, this has the potential to put Trump v Clinton in the shade.
The battle lines have been drawn and rigorous campaigning is underway to determine who will land the sought-after title of Lord Mayor of Gneeveguilla.
Four candidates have been declared and political tension is mounting as separate factions are working behind the scenes to formulate a winning election strategy.

Chris Horgan, Julie McCarthy, Christina O’Sullivan and Padraig Doyle are all vying for the prestigious title of Gneeveguilla’s first citizen and the winner will be known following a three-hour voting process on Friday, September 1.
The new Lord Mayor will be crowned at a Gneeveguilla Carnival community dance, with music by The Kelts, and the following night the first citizen will be guest of honour at a night of entertainment featuring Crystal Swing.
The new member of the chain gang will succeed popular Johnny Crowley whose 12-month term of office is drawing to a close.
Johnny, from Gullane, who retired from his position as driver with the Cadbury’s plant in Rathmore, overcame a strong challenge last year from John O’Donovan, representing Tureencahill, Frankie O’Leary, representing Leam and Padraig O’Connor, representing the village.
