WITH the approach road to Killarney from Killorglin coming in for some negative comment from the adjudicators in the recent Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) league, the parish of Fossa is planning to take action in an attempt to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Although Killarney finished in an impressive third place overall in the nationwide competition, the judges found litter on the road into town from Killorglin – which runs through Fossa, Gortroe and Ballydowney – and a point was deducted from the overall score.
“Much of this route was in good order with regard to litter but there were enough items to bring down the grade to B+ – all food related items,” they said.
The only other locations in Killarney not to receive an A-grade were New Road and the Killarney-Tralee N22 connecting road where, the adjudicators found a variety of food-related items were present, including coffee cups, plastic bottles and bags and fast-food and sweet wrappers.
Locals in Fossa are now planning to explore the possibility of setting up a tidy towns group in the locality to enhance the surroundings of the parish.
A meeting will be held in the local GAA clubhouse on this coming Thursday night at 8.00pm and all interested are welcome to attend.
