
AN accomplished sportsman, who represented his native Galway in football and hurling at senior level, before becoming a remarkably dedicated charity champion, will deliver the keynote address in the Diocese of Kerry to mark Mission Month this October.
Social entrepreneur and philanthropist Alan Kerins will be the special guest in St John’s Parish Centre, Tralee on Thursday of next week, October 17, at 8.00pm.
Kerins was a dual player for Galway, focusing on hurling from 1997 to 2011 before concentrating on football until 2004, lining out with the senior inter-county team until 2011.

He founded Self Help Africa which now works in nine countries across sub-saharan Africa, tackling poverty and improving local communities and the lives of the people.
The organisation works with its own African staff and through local partners to undertake a range of integrated development programmes in rural communities.
The talk in Tralee is being facilitated by the Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation Committee of the Diocese of Kerry.There is no admission fee and all are welcome.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, October 22, Bishop Ray Browne will host an evening of celebration for all who have worked on the missions. It will also be held in the St John’s Parish Centre, Tralee from 8.00pm.
The event, which will include light refreshments, is to acknowledge the people who spent time in the developing world and their contribution to the lives of many and those interested in attending are asked to call 064-6632644 in advance.
