There wasn’t a hi-vis bib or a litter grabber in sight as dedicated volunteers who have played an active role in ensuring events ran very smoothly in Killarney throughout the year enjoyed a night on the town for their efforts.

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce organised an appreciation night in The Laurels lounge to thank everybody who devoted their time and effort to various happenings in the community.

Those that gathered included Tidy Towns volunteers, Mountain Meitheal team members and those who gave of their time to act as stewards, drivers or safety marshals during the various festival parades and celebrations.

They were treated to an informal buffet and drinks and they were praised for their contribution and the community spirit they have shown.

“Killarney simply wouldn’t be the success it is without the volunteers,” declared Chamber Co-President Johnny McGuire.
“Whether they are grabbing the litter pickers and donning their protective gloves to help keep the streets clean or wearing hard hats and protective boots to lend their support to the rhododendron clearance work in the national park, they are all doing a tremendous job and we are very grateful to them,” he said.
The Mountain Meitheal team is back in action every Sunday and Tuesday morning while, in the weeks ahead, the festival volunteers will be kept busy with the Christmas in Killarney festival events.
