THERE has been a call for every possible effort to be made in hospitals to ensure that all communication between medical personnel and patients is conducted in absolute privacy.
Cllr Michael Gleeson said that, over the years, a number of people have raised their concerns at what they perceived as the lack of privacy in hospitals and, particularly, in accident and emergency departments.
“A flimsy curtain affords no privacy from being overheard or overhearing to a person who is most likely already quite traumatised,” he said.
“It very possible that the person in the adjoining cubicle could be an acquaintance, a neighbour or even a family member”.
Cllr Gleeson said his proposal is not in any way a criticism of the excellent nurses and staff in the hospitals but it is a call to the HSE to introduce measures that would reassure patients that their very personal medical details and treatment are being conducted in privacy and with due dignity.
At a meeting of Kerry County Council his motion was seconded and unanimously agreed.
