Flashback Friday

flashback 3The faces might change with every passing year but the familiar crossed-oars snapshot has remained the same for generations as rowing enthusiasts pose for the cameras at the annual Killarney Regatta, a tradition that goes back for close on 230 years.

No sooner are they out of the boats at the O’Mahony’s Point venue, near Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, than the crews at all levels are lined up to ensure inclusion in history’s pages and to help historians of the future to keep a track on the big event competitors down through the years.

Our Flashback Friday snapshot this week shows an all-conquering Workmen’s Rowing Club crew after their juvenile race in the late 1970s.

Back, from left, Tim Hickey, Seanie McCarthy, Mike Cremin and Michael O’Carroll. Front, from left, Maurice Prendiville, Jimmy Doyle (cox), Derry Doyle and Martin Joy.
