Fix the phones or lives will be lost

Lives are in danger as phone contact is difficult, locals have warned

LIVES are being put in danger because of the lack of an adequate telephone service in the Black Valley, concerned locals have stressed.

They voiced their worries following three emergency rescue operations by member of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team in recent days after which two people were hospitalised.

Black Valley residents have complained that landlines in the area have not worked for over two weeks while mobile phone coverage is very limited and, at best, patchy.

“Lives are in danger and contact is difficult,” they said in a statement, urging the communications companies to get their act together.

Rescue volunteers confirmed that one of the lifesaving operations undertaken on December 26/27 was made more difficult because of the very poor phone reception.
