Five production units and research suite planned

Minister Norma Foley: Welcomed the funding for the not-for-profit venture

OVER €1.3 million has been allocated to the development of a major new food hub initiative in Kerry.

Education Minister and Kerry TD, Norma Foley, has welcomed the announcement that a further government grant of €1,365,226 has been approved for the Listowel Food Hub Project.

This ambitious endeavour, led by the North East West Kerry Development, will deliver a 12,000 sq. ft. food hub facility at Cliveragh Business Park and it will comprise of five food production units and a fully fitted research and development suite.

The funding will mitigate against any increases arising from more detailed design and costs information, inflation costs in respect of labour and materials, Covid-19 procedures and supply-chain reactions to Brexit.

Minister Foley said: “This is a wonderful, not-for-profit initiative which will showcase and promote a host of artisan food businesses under one roof. This development will also provide a welcome boost to the North Kerry economy.”

It is understood that the project will take approximately 12 months to complete once it commences on site, which should be shortly following the easing of public health restrictions.
