FIREFIGHTERS in Killarney have had a busy 24 hours as they had to tackle a significant blaze in a bog in Kilcummin overnight as well as a gorse fire on Strickeen mountain.
Units from Killarney and Castleisland were summoned to the bog fire on a hill between Kilcummin and Currow and the glow it caused in the night sky could be seen for miles around. It took a number of hours to bring it under control.
A number of gorse fires have been reported yesterday and today but the blaze on Strickeen was quickly brought under control.
