Fire fighters under pressure to deal with gorse blazes

Kerry County Council has asked landowners not to burn gorse

AN appeal has been issued to landowners to desist from the setting of illegal gorse fires which is causing havoc in the Kerry countryside.

Fire service personnel are being forced to deal with the blazes at a time where their services and expertise is needed elsewhere.

There have been reports of fires in several parts of the county and Kerry County Council has asked those responsible to stop what they are doing.

The local authority is asking landowners not to place any additional strain on emergency services at a time of national crisis and when emergency services are involved in supporting the national response on Covid-19.
