A KILLARNEY woman who was critically injured in a road crash, which claimed the life of her husband, today lost her own battle for life.
Mary Kelliher has died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the collision which occurred at Finnegan’s Cross, Kilcummin early on Thursday, January 9.
She was a front-seat passenger in the vehicle driven by her husband, Eddie, who was transferred to University Hospital Kerry but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Mrs Kelliher, from Leamnaguilla, Kilcummin, had been rushed to hospital by ambulance where attempts to save her had been made for the past nine days.
The driver of the other car involved in the collision suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The accident occurred at 6.45am at a notorious junction in Kilcummin about which safety concerns had been raised regularly.
The Kelliher family’s near neighbour., Cllr Marie Moloney, had raised the issue at council level and last July she met with local authority officials and a senior garda at Finnegan’s Cross to highlight the dangers.
Mrs Kelliher is survived by her sons Jimmy, John and Eamon, daughter Marie, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces and nephew and many other relatives and friends.
