Festival team captures the real spirit of Christmas

It’s lighting up social media like a Christmas tree – and why wouldn’t it?

A stunning Killarney video highlighting the sheer magic of the season of goodwill has certainly caught the public imagination.

It captures a hugely emotional visit of the spectacular Christmas in Killarney Magic Parade to residents of local hospitals and nursing homes.

Their eyes light up when the fabulous festive floats, Disney characters and decorated vintage tractors rolled by the windows of their rooms and, of course, Santa Claus himself made a special effort to give a cheerful wave and a knowing wink to the smiling residents.

The Christmas in Killarney organising committee, chaired by Cllr Niall Kelleher, added a special midweek parade to the agenda for the benefit of some of those that missed out on the five super spectacles that wound their way around the town.

“Christmas in Killarney is all about sharing the joy and spirit of the season with the whole community and that’s why we were delighted to deliver a very special parade to the residents of the community hospitals and the nearby nursing home, including St Columbanius Home, Killarney Community Hospital and Killarney Nursing Home” Cllr Kelleher said.

The magic was caught on camera by Adrian McCarthy of Grandview Media and the end result has already been shared thousands of times on Facebook, X and other social media platforms.

Meanwhile, this Friday night will be the final opportunity of the year to see the Christmas in Killarney Magic Parade – a special welcome home celebration – which will commence at 7.00pm, taking in Lewis Road – where a special autism friendly viewing area is reserved – College Street, Plunkett Street, Main Street and High Street.
