Fast-talking commentator one of 11 Kerry nominees

Tim Moynihan: Shortlisted for award

He is one half of a super double act much loved and greatly enjoyed by Kerry GAA supporters everywhere.

And now popular commentator Tim Moynihan is in the running for a prestigious national award to mark his contribution to broadcasting.

Tim and his co-presenter Ambrose O’Donovan have taken the airways by storm in recent years with their colourful and engaging commentary, particularly from big matches involving Kerry.

Video footage of the intrepid duo reaching fever pitch in the press box goes viral after some big games and their commentary contribution when Seanie O’Shea kicked that last gasp long-range free to deny the Dubs in last year’s All-Ireland semi-final has become the stuff of legend.

Tim’s unique, frenetic style of broadcasting has earned him national recognition and he has now been shortlisted for the Local/Regiona Sports Broadcaster of the Year gong in the 2023 IMRO National Radio Awards.

Fiona Stack: Expressed station’s gratitude

Radio Kerry’s general manager, Fiona Stack, congratulated all nominees and expressed the station’s gratitude to everybody who worked on this year’s entries.

“We are very, very proud of all the output across the week on Radio Kerry. We acknowledge and appreciate the work on all of the entries submitted for this year’s awards, shortlisted or not,” she said.

Radio Kerry has been nominated 132 times and has won 66 IMRO National Radio Awards in the past 17 years.

IMRO invites radio stations to submit entries that they feel show a true and thorough representation of the output of the station and its franchise area. A total of 111 judges from across the industry, media and supporting industries listened to over 700 entries spanning six categories

The 2023 awards ceremony will take place at the Lyrath Estate, Kilkenny, on Friday, October 6.
