A CHARITY that helps seriously ill children has issued an appeal to the Kerry public to support its annual Christmas appeal to ensure it can continue its great work going forward.
The appeal helps LauraLynn – Ireland’s Children’s Hospice – to raise funds to support its services and it also allows the charity to raise awareness of its services amongst the public.
This year’s appeal is spearheaded by the White family who tragically lost their little girl, Eva, to a brain tumour at just 21 months.
Her parents, Lisa and Leigh said Eva – their second child – was born a strong, healthy and beautiful baby. She hit every milestone and began to walk and talk very early on.
At the age of 18 months, they noticed that Eva had starting limping and after taking her to hospital and undergoing various tests, they got the devastating news that she had a brain tumour and doctors believed she would not survive the week.

But Eva fought and lived for 11 weeks after her diagnosis and Lisa and Leigh got the opportunity to take their precious little girl to LauraLynn where they stayed for two weeks. They had time to make memories and spend time together as family and they received training from the team on how to administer Eva’s medications.
With the help of the LauraLynn chairty, Lisa and Leigh were able to take Eva home to sleep in her own bed, surrounded by her toys, spending time with her big brother, James, and the whole family in her final days.
“We wanted to take part in this campaign to pay a little back to Lauralynn and share Eva’s story. We felt LauraLynn were there for us at the darkest moment of our lives,” said Lisa.
“They supported us and took care of our darling Eva. I can’t imagine what it would have been like without them,” she added.
Last year, 374 families and children in Ireland availed of LauraLynn care and supports. Every donation will go towards providing vital care and supports for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
