KYLIE Minogue might have been the star attraction on the Graham Norton Show on BBC but it was Nora Kelly from Killarney that won the hearts of Friday night TV viewers when she appeared on RTÉ’s Late Late Show.

The remarkable Killarney woman, who has 19 children, 58 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, became the toast of Ireland last night when Ryan Tubridy helped celebrate her 90th birthday.

Nora, from Ardaneanig, was joined in the front row of the audience by her 13 daughters and six sons gathered in Killarney earlier in the week to celebrate their very special mum’s landmark birthday.

Her oldest child, Eamon, is now in his mid 60s and the youngest, Laura, is in her md 40s, and the Kelly household was certainly a particularly busy one as the children grew up so close in age.

Nora and her late husband, Johnny, who passed away in 2003, ensured it was a happy home, full of laughter, music, song and storytelling and, despite the demands of rearing 19 children, there was always plenty of everything to go around.

The hugely popular Killarney super mum told Ryan Tubridy, that while she was very proud of all of her children, she didn’t have a favourite as she loved every one of them equally.

The 19 Kelly children are Eamon, Joan, Noreen, Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Bernadette, John, Eileen, Brian, Tim, Breda, Kathleen, Seamus, Sheila, Patricia, Laurence, Nuala and Laura.

There was a wonderful reaction on Twitter and Facebook to Nora’s Late Late Show appearance with views astonished how young she looked for her age.
