OVER three months later than initially planned, for obvious reasons outside the control of the church and the schools, the First Holy Communion season commenced in Killarney on Saturday with excited boys and girls from three local national schools enjoying their big day with their families and their friends.
The first of the ceremonies was in St Mary’s Cathedral for pupils from Holy Cross Mercy at 10.00am and, a half an hour later, it was the turn of pupils from Lissivigeen National School in the Church of the Resurrection.
To accommodate numbers and facilitate social distancing, more pupils from Lissivigeen joined their peers from Tiernaboul Primary School for a second ceremony in the Church of the Resurrection at 12.30pm.
Next weekend the spotlight will fall on the pupils from Loughquittane Primary School in St Mary’s Cathedral at 10.00am followed by Mr O’Brien’s class from St Oliver’s National School in the Church of the Resurrection at 10.30am.
It will be the turn of excited young pupils from Gaelscoil Faithleann in the Church of the Resurrection at 12.30pm and the Scoil Bhride Loreto ceremony will be held in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Muckross at 10.00am.
On Saturday, September 19, the boys from the Presentation Monastery will arrive in St Mary’s Cathedral for a 10.00am ceremony while pupils from St Oliver’s NS will descend on the Church of the Resurrection for two ceremonies, with Ms Moloney’s class scheduled for 10.30am and Ms Fenton’s class at 12.30pm.
Confirmations will get underway in the parish on September 26.
