Erica was the ace in the Kerry pack

Erica McGlynn notched 2-2 against Tipperary in the semi-final

There is, obviously, something special in the water in Fossa that helps to produce footballers of the highest calibre.

Stylish Erica McGlynn proved yesterday that David and Paudie Clifford aren’t the only stars in the parish with a stunning performance that propelled Kerry to victory over Tipperary in the Munster Ladies Senior Football Championship semi-final at Páirc Uí Rinn in Cork.

Wearing the number 14 jersey, as David Clifford did in the game that followed, McGlynn, blessed with pace and power and a great footballing brain, contributed a whopping 2-3 to Kerry’s 2-12 tally in their emphatic and impressive 10-point victory.

Kerry were great to watch with their all-out attack game plan and this success can be attributed to a determination not only to get the job done but to get it done properly.

Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh: Notched a point

Having recently secured a return to the top flight of the national league, Kerry showed the have the necessary firepower to be a force to be reckoned with in the championship and they outclassed and outplayed the Tipp girls right through this encounter.

Early points from Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh, Niamh Carmody and Niamh Ní Chonchúir set Kerry on their way and their first goal came after just nine minutes of play when Carmody and Ní Mhuircheartaigh set up McGlynn who palmed the ball to the net with the confidence of a player on top of her game.

She repeated the feat shortly after when she pounced on a loose ball after an effort from Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh fell just short of the target and, at half-time, Kerry had a nine-point advantage, 2-7 to 0-4, and the game looked won.

The second half certainly lacked intensity ad Kerry seemed content to sit back on their lead and managers Darragh Long and Declan Quill will not be too happy that they sent five good scoring opportunities wide of the posts and that is certainly something to work on ahead of the Munster final against either Cork or Waterford later this month.
