Favourites East Kerry will meet a bang-in-form Dingle in what promises to be a humdinger of a Kerry Senior Football Championship semi-final clash next weekend.
Mid Kerry – impressive winners against Templenoe at Fitzgerald Stadium this afternoon – will play surprise packet Feale Rangers in the other last four tie.
A slightly lethargic East Kerry were pushed hard by Kenmare Shamrocks in Killarney this afternoon with the point-kicking from distance skills of David Clifford proving the difference in a 0-13 to 1-7 win, Kenmare’s goal coming from the penalty spot in the opening minutes.
Clifford kicked seven points in all, including three from frees and one from a mark with Seanie O’Shea notching five for Kenmare, three from frees and one 45.
In the opening tie today, championship dark horses Mid Kerry proved just about too strong for Templenoe – who had to line out without Gavin Crowley – and the divisional outfit frustrated their opponents when they played keep-ball as the game progressed to win by two points, 0-13 to 0-11.
Mike Breen was a standout at centre half back for Mid Kerry with Fiachra Clifford and Eanna O’Connor doing the damage up front.
Templenoe will now divert their attention to the club championship final against Kerins O’Rahillys as, if ayn of the three divisional sides, East Kerry, Mid Kerry or Feale Rangers, win the Bishop Moynihan Cup, the club final winners will advance to the Munster Club Championship series.
With Tom O’Sullivan – in particular – and Paul Geaney outstanding, Dingle registered a comfortable victory over a depleted Dr Crokes in Tralee on Saturday night but the Killarney club was always going to struggle without the injured trio of Gavin White, Micheál Burns and Fionn Fitzgerald.
Feale Rangers, meanwhile, sent reigning champions Austin Stacks – short a number of regulars – packing in an 1-11 to 0-11 extra time thriller at Austin Stack Park with former Kerry minor Barry O’Mahony earning the north Kerry divisional side a last four place for the first time in nine years.
