A GAA club’s plan for a major redevelopment of its playing facilities has received a timely boost with Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, delivering a €75,000 Sports Capital Programme grant to cover some of the costs.
Phase one of the Milltown-Castlemaine GAA development has already been completed and it included the provision of an all-weather, natural, sand-based training area.
Club officials said the project has already alleviated much pressure from the heavily utilised main playing pitch.
The latest round of funding will now enable the club to proceed with phase two which is the development of the main playing pitch and second training area to a higher standard.
“While we are very grateful to Brendan Griffin for securing this funding for us, our club will still need to raise much more money to complete the project,” a spokesperson said.
“We will continue with our fundraising drive to secure our target to complete phase two next year”.
