THE Mayor of Kerry has welcomed the allocation of €500,000 in additional funding for Kerry under the Leader programme.
The county has been ranked top of a list of counties which are most advanced in delivering the Leader programme by the Department of Rural and Community Development.
Kerry has a 77 per cent approval for applicants to date and a total of 272 projects in the county have been supported under the current Leader programme.
Cllr Niall Kelleher, who is also chairperson of the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) which oversees the administration of the Leader funding in Kerry, said the additional funding will greatly assist in funding new local projects and initiatives.
“This announcement is testament to the success of the Leader funding programme in Kerry and the way in which the funding is administered by the Local Action Group of the LCDC,” he said.
“It also proves the success and benefits of the close collaboration with the local development companies in Kerry, North and East Kerry Development, IRD Duhallow and the South Kerry Development Partnership in supporting our communities countywide,” the mayor added.
