A community response team set up in Kerry to garner support and assistance for Ukrainian refugees has already raised €5,000 in donations.

A collaboration of key agencies and support groups, a local committee in Listowel, working with Kerry County Council and co-ordinated by NEWKD, was formed to co-ordinate supports for the refugee community and to ensure that all available resources and supports are mobilised to provide assistance and practical supports to the families.

The flag day collection raises n impressive €5,000

A flag day collection was gheld in support of St Vincent de Paul’s work in providing day to day practical supports to refugees on arrival in Kerry. NEWKD, Listowel FRC, Listowel Municipal District Council and Listowel Community Centre co-ordinated the event with collection points on the streets of Listowel as well as at local supermarkets.

Staff and volunteers from these groups, supported by members of the Listowel Chamber Alliance, filled the two-hour long collection slots throughout the day to help raise an impressive €5,000.

Listowel FRC CEO Jackie Landers praised the response and the generosity shown by the community in support of these people who, through no fault of their own, have found themselves here in the most difficult of circumstances.

All of the monies raised will provide support to the refugee community in North Kerry and the NEWKD office in Listowel will open from Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 4.00pm, to receiving donations of clothes, medical and sanitary supplies and other appropriate items.
