A NEW shared services centre with working accommodation for 16 staff and secure and supervised warehousing facilities to accommodate all of the storage requirements of the Bon Secours Hospital in Tralee has been officially opened.

Minister for Education and Kerry TD, Norma Foley, officiated at the opening of the facility in Monavalley which will cater for staff across a range of functions including human resources, finance and procurement.

Minister Foley said the development represents another significant investment by the Bon Secours and by relocating staff to the new offices the hospital can further expand its services and offer community access to a broader range of essential health services.

She also welcomed the Bon Secours Hospital collaboration with University Hospital Kerry earlier this year which was recognised nationally as a model of best practice for integrated care across the public and private healthcare systems.

During that period, the Bon Secours provided inpatient care to hundreds of public patients, including a medical assessment unit service, a surgical assessment unit hundreds of theatre procedures, endoscopies, cardiac procedures and a range of other diagnostic procedures.

“We are all justifiably proud of what was achieved and I am delighted to announce that the Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee and University Hospital Kerry have just signed a new service level agreement to continue a level of collaboration into the future,” Minister Foley said.

The shared services facility in Monavalley was first identified as part of the hospital’s 2020 strategic plans and it has been delivered on time and on budget. It is strategically important in that it gives our hospital additional space to expand its service offering.

CEO of the Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee, TJ O’Connor, said in 2020 alone, the hospital will invest approximately €3 million in equipment and infrastructural upgrades and it has already recruited 96 staff.

“We are currently working closely with our colleagues in University Hospital Kerry to deliver a range of services to our community here in Kerry and beyond and will continue to be happy to support the public health system for as long as they need us,” he said.
