
AN investment of over €350,000 in Killarney National Park has been approved by the government, it has been confirmed.
The funding is part of an overall allocation of €1,281,632 to be spent nationwide under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.
The Killarney allocation will go towards the restoration of greenhouses at Muckross House, phase one of the restoration of the formal gardens at Knockreer House and the provision of signage, branding and interpretation throughout the park.
The funding was announced by Minister of State for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, who said the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund is a key component of Project Ireland 2040, which is the government’s plan for balanced regional development across the country.

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce has warmly welcomed the allocation and thanked Minister Griffin for his commitment to further enhancing the national park.
“This is fantastic news and we are delighted that the projects are being advanced. It will be money well spent on improving one of the most important and valuable assets in Irish tourism,” said Chamber President Paul Sherry.
Other Kerry projects included are the €275,000 purchase of the Mara net factory development in Kenmare to facilitate a number of initiatives, including an enhanced market area and storage facilities.
€415,000 has been approved for the Dingle Workhouse masterplan which will lead to the development of the currently disused historic property while €292,500 will go to Bailena Fheirtéaraigh to support the design of a range of community, sporting and educational facilities.
