
Founded in Killarney over 80 years ago and serving the community with great skill and determination since then, the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps today received a major boost when the unit was approved for a €65,000 grant to support its community-based ambulance transport system.
It was one of the local groups included in the funding announced by Minister for Education and Kerry TDNorma Foley confirms with a total of €328,882 in CLÁR funding rubber-stamped for six essential community organisations and key first-responder groups in Kerry.

Others to benefit are:
- Social Action Group Rathmore CLG will receive €35,499 for the purchase of a car converted for wheelchair accessibility and passengers.
- Banna Community Rescue Boats Ireland will receive €100,000 for the purchase of a lifeboat.
- Ballybunnion Sea and Cliff Rescue Service will receive €49,600 for the purchase of a Launching Vehicle.
- Castleisland Day Care is approved funding of €39,273 for the purchase of a five-seater wheelchair accessible vehicle.
- Cumann Tithiochta na Dromoda Teo will receive €39,510 for the purchase of a hybrid electric vehicle.
Minister Foley said: “Community organisations, first responder groups and key voluntary cancer care organisations continuously provide vital services to some of Kerry’s most vulnerable people, enhancing the communities they serve and often on a voluntary basis”.
