€200,000 sanctioned for interim repair works

It is certainly right in contention to be classed as one of the worst stretches of road in Kerry but, at last, interim repair works are to be carried out that will allow sections to be repaired.

The road from Laune Bridge in Killorglin to the Fexco Hub on the Killarney Road has been in a deplorable state for years but Cllr Michael Cahill, a constant campaigner for work to be done there, has been assured that works will be carried out before the end of the year.

Cllr Michael Cahill: Long-time campaigner

“I have received confirmation from Kerry County Council that funding of approximately €200,000 has been obtained from Transport Infrastructure Ireland to repair sections as an interim fix until the larger project is completed,” he said.

The worst sections identified included two lags and a 300m section stretching from towards Killarney.

Approximately 1km of the 2.5km will be repaired as part of the works.

“I have been pushing for these works for some time now as the deteriorating state of the entrance road to the town is the cause of great concern for all those using it,” Cllr Cahill said.

“I have highlighted the extremely dangerous and shocking condition of this very busy road and I am delighted that these improvement works will now be carried out during the month of November,” he added.
