€100,000 spent on town centre street upgrade

Main Street will fully reopen on Sunday next

KILLARNEY’S Main Street will reopen to traffic next Sunday morning, December 27.

An investment of €100,000 was committed to upgrading the street and the work commenced in October with the repair and replacement of the granite paving blocks on the carriageway.

The works, which were part of the agreed Killarney Municipal District works programme for 2020, took place in phases over several weeks with every effort made to limit disruption for local businesses, shoppers and pedestrians.

The works required the closure of Main Street to vehicular traffic but it remained fully open for pedestrian while deliveries to and from local businesses will be facilitated throughout the works.

The original granite brick surface on Main Street was over a decade old and small sections of the roadway were  be completed during each phase of the work.
