Kerry sits in first place in the latest allocation of funding for greenway funding with the greatest county share of the €26 million initiative.

Reacting to the news, Green Party local elections candidate in Tralee, Anluan Dunne, said it reflects the success of both the Tralee-Fenit and Listowel-Limerick routes.

“I have been consistently seeking ways to accelerate the delivery of active travel transport routes which serve rural parts of Kerry and this is now seen in the funding provided,” he said.

“In addition to being a new transport route, these greenways also have significant amenity value and provide a sustainable tourism offering helping to drive the rural economy.”
