
OVER €1.4 million has been rubber-stamped for four of Kerry’s fishery harbour centres.
The funding is part of the annual Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme which provides finances for safety, maintenance and new development works of the fisheries and seafood processing sectors nationwide.
Dingle Pier is to receive €1.2 million in funding for the upgrade of marine facilities, safety and maintenance works as well as enhancing disability access.
Dún Chaoin Pier has been awarded a grant of €75,000 for repair works and the development of a new slipway while Knightstown Marina will receivs €108,750 in funding to replace a breakwater pontoon and electrical bollards.
Dooneen Pier (Feohanagh) has been awarded €30,000 to complete a number of essential maintenance and repair works.
This brings the total amount awarded to Kerry to €1,413,750.
Announcing details, Education Minister and Kerry TD, Norma Foley, it acknowledges the essential part played by the fishing community in contributing to the Kerry economy.
“This funding also provides Kerry County Council with vital support for the repair and development of fishery and marine infrastructures across the county,” she remarked.
