KILLARNEY adventurer Pat Falvey has teamed up with Kerry GAA legend Pat Spillane to promote a major fundraising walk that will raise vital funds for cancer research.

The ninth annual Kerry Way walk will take place from July 25-27 and the intrepid duo invite the Killarney public to don their walking boots to join them.

It will involve a guided 70km walk, over three days, combining impressive mountain views, dramatic peaks and glens, wild moorlands, wooded paths and lakes along the spectacular Kerry Way trails.

Challenging but fun, the great camaraderie on the route will add to the spectacular setting and it will ensure a truly memorable experience for all those involved.
The route will include some of Ireland’s most fabulous walkways, including Lauragh to Kenmare, Torc Waterfall and Esknamucky Glen, a boat trip across Kenmare Bay and a twilight walk to Kenmare.
Beaufort-based adventurer and mountaineer Falvey said he really looks forward to the big event every year.

“It is great to take a break from the hustle and bustle and join a fantastic bunch of people,” he said.

Falvey added: “Taking on cancer is a daunting challenge which requires focus and determination, elements which are also needed for facing other challenges in life such as climbing Mount Everest or walking to the North or South Pole.”
No stranger to team work, Kerry legend Pat Spillane said there are still too many people, including family and friends, who are affected by cancer.

“I was lucky enough in my playing career to be a part of a fantastic team, with everyone working tirelessly to reach the same goal,” he said.

“The team of researchers at the Cancer Research Centre are the very same, highly skilled and talented and working together to develop cutting-edge research which will provide cures for cancer.”

Over the past nine years the event has raised a whopping €650,000 for cancer research in the past nine years and the organisers have set a target of €50,000 this time.

The walk is open to everyone over the age of 18 and participants can opt to walk for one, two or all three days.
