Dwight Yorke a star attraction in local nightclub

Dwight Yorke and James Fleming in the Killarney Grand on Saturday night

A VERY well-known Killarney sportsman was delighted to meet up with a household name in football when they were both enjoying a night on the town.

James Fleming, the former Dr Crokes and St Paul’s Basketball star, who progressed to become a top notch basketball coach, bumped into former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke in the Killarney Grand on Saturday night and he managed to get a snapshot as a souvenir of the occasion.

The 47-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international played for United for a number of seasons and, during the course of a long and distinguished career, he also lined out with Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and Sunderland.

Yorke, who was once in a relationship with model Katie Price, scored 123 goals in the Premier League and he won a glorious treble in 1999 when the Reds won the Premiership, the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Dwight Yorke was the second former Manchester United great to visit Killarney inside a week as former skipper Rio Ferdinand was in town for a wedding the previous weekend.

Former Kerry under 21 player James Fleming captained Dr Crokes to an All-Ireland Club Championship final in 2007 and he also played National League basketball.

There was no shortage of sports-star spotting opportunities in the Killarney Grand on Saturday night as several members of the Kerry panel were there celebrating their narrow Munster Final victory over Cork.
