Jimmy Bermingham, a famous soccer player who lined out for Ireland, played with Crokes and with Kerry and he was corner forward with the Kingdom team that won a Munster final in 1923.

Also on that Kerry team were Dr Crokes’ players, goalkeeper Dinso Hurley and corner forward Johnny O’Mahony.

When Bermingham returned to Dublin he became a very successful soccer player with Bohemians, winning FAI Cup and league medals and also a European title.

The Bermingham family, from Donnycarney in Dublin, were honoured at a reception in Dr Crokes clubhouse when they returned on a visit from the capital to celebrate his links with the Killarney club.

In a poignant moment, Kerry County Board Chairman, Patrick O’Sullivan, presented them with their grandfather’s medal 101 years after he won it on the field of play.

In turn, the family presented the Jimmy Bermingham Memorial Cup to Dr Crokes, commemorating the feats of their grandfather’s time spent playing in the black and amber.
