Double celebrations for the Quill family

Kerry Person of the Year Louise Quill

Charity champion Louise Quill, who has devoted her time to helping children in need, was presented with the Kerry Person of the Year for 2024 by the Kerry Association in Dublin at the weekend.

Louise, from Tralee, is the founder of the Tír na nÓg Children’s Foundation and she has been honoured in recognition of her transformative work supporting disadvantaged communities in Tanzania for the past 18 years.

Cathaoirleach of the Kerry Association in Dublin, Mary Shanahan, said the award was presented in recognition of Louise’s exceptional work in leading the charity to provide essential services and infrastructure to those in need.

She referred to Louise’s work which has led to the development of kindergartens and schools, including a massive multi-million-euro project completed last year.

She has also been instrumental in drilling boreholes to provide access to clean water and has initiated multiple water filtration projects providing thousands of people in underprivileged communities with access to safe drinking water.

Louise’s efforts have also resulted in the creation of sports and recreation facilities, playgrounds for children and the construction of a library. In recent times the building of a dental clinic has been completed, as well as a third sanitation system at a school for disabled children.

Her mission has always been to bring hope, support and brighter futures to children who need it most and this award affirms the importance of that work.

Both awards were presented at the annual Oíche Chiarraí in the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel, Dublin.
