DONATIONS in lieu of flowers at the funeral of a hugely popular Glenflesk woman has resulted in presentations being made to the two nominated charities.

Mum-of-four Maureen Kelliher, originally from Templenoe and late of Artigallivan, Headford, passed away last November after a battle with multiple sclerosis. At her funeral her family suggested donations be made, if desired, to the MS Society and the Irish Wheelchair Association.

At a special gathering in the Kerry Way bar and restaurant in Glenflesk, Maureen’s family and friends presented €150 to representatives of both charities.

A real community woman and a great mum, who adored her children, Roy, Aideen, Susan and Marc, Maureen (47) had coped with her condition with great courage and tenacity and she was determined to live her life as normally as possible.

Just weeks before her premature passing, she travelled to Croke Park to watch her son, Marc, win an All-Ireland Minor Championship medal with Kerry.

In a tribute at the time of her passing, Glenflesk Ladies GAA Committee said: “Maureen brought amazing drive and passion to the different roles she held within the club, as an officer, a coach, a taxi driver, always with a supportive word and a comforting shoulder – and never in flat shoes.”
