Dogs on their best behaviour at the friary

All creatures great and small were out in force for the annual blessing of the animals ceremony at the Franciscan Friary in Killarney and the best news of all is that they were all on their best behaviour.

Vincent Lacke and his canine companion attended the blessing ceremony

A wonderful tradition dating back decades, there was no shortage of canine companions on the day and they were blessed to keep them safe by the friars who were delighted to catch up and get familiar with some of the town’s pets.

The ceremony is held in celebration of St Francis of Assisi – the patron saint of animals and the environment – and while it was mainly dogs that turned out, cats, rabbits, hamsters and even mice were also welcome if their owners wanted to have them blessed.
