TWO high quality Kerry restaurants have teamed up with the National Council for the Blind (NCBI) to put together sumptuous surprise menus for this year’s Dine in the Dark fundraising event.
It is deemed fundamental to raising awareness around sight loss services and the promotion offers diners the opportunity to experience a meal that is totally dependent on taste, smell and touch.
The Aghadoe Heights and The Brehon are both involved this year with the former planning the culinary experience on November 1 and The Brehon on November 14.
Guests are invited to “feast their imaginations, not their eyes” and they will be given blindfolds on the night prior to tasting the food. Braille menus will be offered, once again highlighting the challenges that are faced by those with sight loss and allowing people to challenge their thinking around sight loss.
The Aghadoe Heights Hotel Dine in the Dark, on November 1, will feature a four-course dinner with tea and coffee for €45 and €10 per ticket will go directly to the NCBI.
On Wednesday, November 14, meanwhile, Danú at The Brehon will host an evening during which diners will be invited to enjoy their meals blindfolded. The three-course experience costs €35 with €10 per person going to the charity.
“We team is really looking forward to taking part in this fantastic initiative of the NCBI. Our customers can expect a wonderful dining experience when the taste, textures and flavours of our food will tantalise their tastebuds,” said general manager Sinead McCarthy,
