A MAN who has been in the driving seat – quite literally – of rallying in Killarney for several years has been honoured by the club he spearheads.
Diarmuid Cronin’s enormous contribution to the sport was celebrated at the Killarney and District Motor Club’s 40-year celebration at the town’s rally headquarters in the Gleneagle Hotel at the weekend.
He was presented with a special achievement award by dedicated club PRO Johnny Hickey in recognition of his ongoing commitment and dedicated service.

Johnny said Diarmuid was being thanked for the endless time he has given, his support of everyone else and his ability to deal with any problems that arise.
“He has gone over and above the call of duty for the love and passion that he has for the sport of rallying. The endless phone calls, meetings and his true dedication, has to be admired,” the PRO said.
Johnny said Diarmuid – who has been club chairman for the past 10 years – is not only a great organiser but he is also a top competitor in the sport.
Special recognition awards were also presented to founder members Mike and Noreen Marshall who received honorary membership of the club and displayed he commitment over the past 40 years.
The weekend celebration also marked 40 years of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship.
